100+ Classic Cars Cruising to Cheer Up Balfour Senior Living Residents on Father’s Day

When Balfour Lavender Farms Life Enrichment Manager, Nikole Bari, started planning yet another socially distant holiday for her 40 senior residents because of COVID-19, she had no idea that her plans would morph into an event that will bring cheer and smiles to over the over 800 residents and staff members of the entire Balfour Senior Living Louisville Campus on Father’s Day this year.

The inspiration came from a favorite past time that Nikole shared with her father: classic cars. Turns out one of the Balfour Lavender Farms residents, Bill Reichenberg, shares Nikole’s interest! As they say, one thing led to another.  Nikole, Bill and fellow car-collector friends, John Birdsall and Karen Steele have now organized a Classic Car Cruise – a parade of over 100 cars that will begin at the Flatirons Community Church parking lot located at 355 W. South Boulder Road in Lafayette and then proceed west on South Boulder Road then turn north onto Plaza Drive in Louisville to cruise by each of the Balfour Senior Living buildings that make up the Louisville Campus.

Speaking to the informality of her group Karen says, “We don’t have a formal name for our group. We just got the word out through word of mouth.”  Karen and friends will gather on the morning of Father’s Day, Sunday, June 21, 2020, and begin their parade at 10:00 am.

Bill is a resident of Balfour Lavender Farms, an assisted living residence, and for his safety, he will not be participating in the actual parade.  Thankfully, his son, Scott, will drive his dad’s favorite car in the parade right behind the Balfour Senior Living Tesla that will lead off the parade of beautiful cars.

“With our residents getting up in years, their short term memory may not be as sharp, but show them something vintage, something from decades passed, and they really do come alive with vivid memories and wonderful stories to share,” says Nikole.  Balfour Lavender Farms Executive Director, Richard Conklin stated, “I can’t believe how this idea has grown and I’m grateful that so many of our residents and staff will get to enjoy this parade down memory lane.”

This event will be broadcast live via Facebook Live.  Voice of the Buffs and Director of Broadcasting for CU Athletics, Mark Johnson, will be our live commentator for this event.
